My first blog entry EVER…..Luling, Texas

OK, this is my first blog entry EVER. I have so much to say about being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. But I am already late in getting this out, so I’ll chat about that later. I also wanted to talk about our adventures in getting ready to go to Luling for our next workshops. And I really wanted to talk about out first day on the first day. Well it’s the second day and the reason this is coming out on the second day is that on the day before we were going to start, our Chef/Teacher bailed on us. So I needed to scramble to find another Chef, while figuring out how to feed 20 people 3 meals a day until then. Chef you say? What does that have to do with a filmmaking workshop? Well we run our workshops like a film set and all our staff and faculty are working professionals and in the real world, if you don’t feed your crew well they won’t follow you to Jabbip (fictitious for out in the Boonies) and put in long hours. They will leave or be grouchy, do I hear Mutiny? Our workshops are total immersion, we clock in nearly 100 hours in 8 days of instruction. Meal times are a great time for us to build mentorship relations that we hope will last beyond the workshops. As long as we are bringing a Chef anyway, why not make another positive impact on a community by offering a culinary program about healthy food and healthy food preparation to those interesting? We are blessed with discovering Sam Sanford, who dropped everything and came out today. He and our volunteer, the lovely Lan are out shopping right now.
